Understanding Physics and its Branches

Science is divided into three major branches which refers to natural sciences, formal sciences, and social sciences. Each group has its sub-branches. For example, under the natural sciences, its branch includes physical science. Some of you may think that physical science and physics are the same. However, the two are different. In this article, we will focus more on physics and its branches.

The study of matter, motion, and related concepts belongs to physics. In physics, there are also different laws and theories. The scientific theories needs to be proven that’s why scientists and physicists do a lot of experiments and studies. They do so in order that these theories will be accepted as true and factual. Physics is more on theories.

Branches of Physics

  • Relativity. This is also known as the “theory of relativity”. It refers to the relationship between electromagnetism and mechanics. This theory was proposed by a famous physicist, Albert Einstein.
  • Classical mechanics. This model was named after Isaac Newton. Under this model are branches including dynamics, relativistic mechanics, statistical mechanics, etc.

  • Cosmology. This refers to the study of physics which specifically, the study of how the universe existed.
  • Quantum mechanics. Concepts related to this model are matrix mechanics, quantum tunneling, Planck’s constant, etc. Systems such as the atomic and subatomic are treated with the help of this model.

The above branches of physics mentioned are just a few of its branches. Physics has interdisciplinary fields as well. This fields includes biophysics, geophysics, astrophysics, medical physics, etc. The study of physics is very interesting.

The Difference between Scientific Theories and Scientific Laws

Science covers a vast explanation of scientific theories and scientific laws. It is the organization of knowledge based on the results of tests and experiments. The prediction of anything related to the universe and the possible phenomenon that may happen in the future are all science-related. Scientists can have many explanations related to science because they usually conduct research in order to prove something. They usually come up with many scientific theories and laws as well.

Scientific Theory

With the help of the scientific method, scientists can come up with different theories. These theories can be repeatedly tested and the result is based on the scientific method. If the result matches with the theory that was made, then the theory can be well-explained based on the evidence.

Any observation must be accurate so that the scientific theory that was made don’t need any modification. Actually, any scientific theory can result to false predictions. However, these theories becomes the foundation or tool in order to develop a higher technology for men’s convenience. An example of the scientific theory is the Atomic Theory.

Scientific Law

Any phenomenon that will happen based on a cause and effect is a scientific law. Any scientific law is based on evidence just like the scientific theory. In any science we study, we usually encounter scientific laws. A famous example of it is the Newton’s Law or the Law of Gravitation.
